Membership
Our foundation is governed by its inclusive community of individual donors who give $1,000 or more a year — the OSE Members. Unlike at many other nonprofits, their rights are legally defined in our formal Membership Policy and the Bylaws.
They advise the Board, take part in members-only events, receive regular updates from the Board, and will appoint community-nominated board directors in the future. All board directors and the Executive Director must also be Members.

Former Team
Chad Whitacre was one of the initial board directors, a co-founding member, and the first Secretary of the Open Source Endowment Foundation. He resigned from these roles on July 15, 2026, as part of his retirement from the tech industry. We are very grateful for his contributions.
